About us
We are a group of volunteers who are passionate about two things: Chihuahuas and saving dogs from dying in our local SoCal animal shelters.
Those of us who love this small breed have struggled to find sweaters that actually fit but at the same time, and are comfortable for the dogs to wear.
With more of a petite Bulldog chest, many Chihuahuas don't like wearing the sweaters you can purchase in pet stores... and they tend to wiggle out of anything they find constricting or uncomfortable.
Many of us have small stacks of sweaters and T-shirts that we have bought in the past. And it doesn't seem to matter how much (or how little) you paid for one - they just didn't fit quite right.
After Abby broke her front right leg and it was not repairable during surgery, the desire to find something that would fit correctly AND didn't allow her to 'nose' under the neckline to lick her incision, speeded up our efforts to find a proper fitting sweater. We attempted to close the right armhole on several we purchased, but this just added to the ill-fitting (and tight) chest area of the items. Find one big enough around the chest and it would be too big around the neck. In the end, after modifying so many and none fitting right, we took to our knitting needles, determined to finally come up with patterns that would fit our Chihuahuas and be comfortable for the dogs to wear at the same time!
And yes, this is a fundraising effort to save dogs from dying in our local shelters. TLC - Tiny Loving Canines, Inc. is a small dog breed (only) rescue that holds weekly adoptions on Saturdays at the PETCO in Moorpark, CA. We pull dogs primarily off of the kill lists - so that means many of our saved dogs need medical treatment - vet bills can be VERY expensive. ALL profits from this fundraising effort go directly to not only bailing these dogs out of shelters, but to also get them healthy as we rehabilitate them for eventual placement in their very own furever home.
